Haiti 0–1 Scotland — World Cup 2026 Group C Match Report

Scott McTominay's 34th-minute header gave Scotland a famous World Cup 2026 win over Haiti in Miami. Goalkeeper Angus Gunn was decisive in the second half as Haiti pushed for an equaliser.

Scotland earned a famous World Cup 2026 win at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, defeating Haiti 1–0 with a disciplined, organised Group C performance that sends a clear message to Brazil and Morocco: the Dark Blues are here to compete.

For Scotland, this is only their second World Cup appearance in the modern era, and Steve Clarke's side showed the pragmatic collective quality that has defined their recent international campaigns. Compact in defence, dangerous from set pieces, and organised to a level that gave Haiti very little space to work with, Scotland controlled this match through their defensive structure rather than their attacking play.

Haiti presented a genuinely testing challenge. Competing in only their second World Cup, the Caribbean nation showed moments of technical quality that belied their status as heavy outsiders. Midfielder Wilde-Donald Guerrier, who plays his club football in France, was exceptional in the first period — a tireless runner who created Haiti's best chance of the first half from an intelligent flick-on that nearly played in their striker through on goal.

Scotland's defensive structure held throughout. Andy Robertson and Kieran Tierney operated as one of the most complete left-flank partnerships in international football. John McGinn covered every blade of grass in midfield, the heartbeat of a pressing unit that never allowed Haiti's best players time to turn and face the goal with the ball.

The only goal came from exactly the kind of set piece that Scotland have made their trademark. Robertson's outswinging corner from the left found Scott McTominay arriving at the back post, and his header was directed with absolute precision into the bottom corner. 1–0 Scotland, 34 minutes played.

The second half was a test of nerve. Haiti, backed by a vocal diaspora support in Miami, came forward with increasing belief and created two clear opportunities. Scotland's goalkeeper Angus Gunn made a world-class stop from a close-range header with 10 minutes remaining that would have levelled the match. A second chance fell across the face of goal in the 79th minute and somehow did not find a Haitian touch.

Scotland held on for three precious points. Group C — also containing Brazil and Morocco — is set up to deliver several more dramatic evenings before the group stage concludes.
