World Cup 2026 Top Scorers
The race for the FIFA World Cup 2026 Golden Boot, updated after every match. L. Messi of Argentina leads the way with 5 goals.
What Is the World Cup Golden Boot?
The Golden Boot — officially the adidas Golden Boot — is awarded to the player who scores the most goals at a single FIFA World Cup. It is one of the tournament's most coveted individual prizes, and the race for it often runs all the way to the final whistle of the final.
When two or more players finish level on goals, the tie is broken first by assists, and then by the fewest minutes played — a rule that rewards the most efficient finisher rather than the player who simply spent the most time on the pitch. Penalties count towards a player's total, which is why the table above tracks spot-kicks separately.
Kylian Mbappé claimed the most recent Golden Boot at Qatar 2022 with eight goals, edging Lionel Messi on the same count; Harry Kane led the way at Russia 2018 with six. With 48 teams and a record 104 matches across the United States, Canada and Mexico, the 2026 edition gives the world's best forwards more games than ever to chase the prize — and the winning tally could be the highest in decades.
