MoroccoScotland 0–1 Morocco: Saibari's Early Strike Eases the Atlas Lions Towards the Round of 32
Ismael Saibari struck inside two minutes — his second goal of the tournament — and Morocco defended superbly to beat Scotland 1–0 and move to the brink of qualification.
Morocco moved to the brink of the Round of 32 with a disciplined 1–0 victory over Scotland at Gillette Stadium in Boston, a result built — as so many of theirs are — on an early goal and a defensive performance of real maturity.
The decisive moment came inside two minutes. Ismael Saibari, who had also scored in the opening draw with Brazil, latched onto a clever pass from Brahim Díaz and finished early to stun Scotland and settle Moroccan nerves before they had a chance to fray.
Saibari Strikes Again
For Saibari, it was a second goal in two matches and confirmation of his importance to this Morocco side. The early strike forced Scotland to chase the game from the outset against opposition supremely comfortable defending a lead — a task that has undone better teams than Steve Clarke's.
Morocco managed the rest of the half with composure, Diop picking up a booking in the 23rd minute as the Atlas Lions occasionally had to dig in, but rarely looking genuinely troubled.
A Familiar, Controlled Win
Scotland improved after the interval and pushed for an equaliser, captain Andrew Robertson booked in the 65th minute amid their growing urgency. But Morocco's back line — the foundation of their semi-final run at Qatar 2022 — held firm, restricting the Scots to half-chances and seeing the game out without alarm.
Group C Picture
Victory takes Morocco to four points from two matches, level with Brazil at the top of Group C and within touching distance of qualification. For Scotland, a second result to forget leaves their hopes hanging by a thread. Morocco, standard-bearers for Arab and African football, march on.
