UzbekistanPortugal 5–0 Uzbekistan: Ronaldo Double Headlines a Houston Rout
Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice and Portugal ran riot in a 5–0 demolition of Uzbekistan, with Nuno Mendes, Rafael Leão and an own goal completing the rout.
Cristiano Ronaldo rolled back the years with a first-half double as Portugal swept aside Uzbekistan 5–0 at NRG Stadium in Houston, a commanding display that emphatically revived their campaign.
Ronaldo, at 41 competing in what he has said will be his final World Cup, needed only six minutes to open the scoring, finishing João Cancelo's cross. Nuno Mendes added a second on 17 minutes, and Ronaldo struck again on 39 minutes from Bruno Fernandes' assist to make it 3–0 at the break.
Ronaldo Rolls Back the Years
The second half brought further misery for Uzbekistan. Abdukodir Nematov turned the ball into his own net on the hour, and substitute Rafael Leão completed the scoring with three minutes to play.
It was a near-flawless attacking performance from Portugal, who had been held to a more cautious result in their opener and answered any questions in style.
Group K Picture
The big win lifts Portugal to four points and second place in Group K, behind only Colombia on goal difference. Uzbekistan, beaten heavily, remain without a point and face elimination.
