NetherlandsNetherlands Ease Past Tunisia 3–1 With a Fast Start in Kansas City
An early own goal and a Brian Brobbey strike set the Netherlands on their way to a controlled 3–1 win over Tunisia.
The Netherlands underlined their credentials as one of the tournament's form sides with a controlled 3–1 victory over Tunisia at Arrowhead Stadium, a result built on a fast start and managed with real assurance.
The Dutch could hardly have dreamed of a better opening. Inside three minutes they were ahead, an Ellyes Skhiri own goal handing them the early initiative, and by the seventh minute the lead was doubled when Brian Brobbey turned home to put the Netherlands firmly in command.
Tunisia, to their credit, refused to let the game drift away. Hamza Mastouri pulled a goal back in the 54th minute to give the North Africans hope and inject genuine tension into the closing half-hour. But the Netherlands had the composure to respond. Jan Paul van Hecke restored the two-goal cushion in the 62nd minute, settling any nerves and putting the result beyond doubt.
For the Netherlands, it is exactly the kind of professional, front-running performance that wins groups. Clinical when chances arrived and rarely troubled in defence once the third goal landed, they look every bit a side capable of a deep run.
For Tunisia, there is frustration but not disgrace. Their refusal to capitulate after a nightmare start, and Mastouri's goal, offer something to build on. But against opposition of this calibre, the early concessions proved too steep a hill to climb.
