Saudi ArabiaYamal and Oyarzabal Star as Spain Thrash Saudi Arabia 4–0
Lamine Yamal opened the scoring and Mikel Oyarzabal struck twice in three first-half minutes as the European champions Spain produced a ruthless 4–0 win over Saudi Arabia at World Cup 2026.
The European champions arrived at the World Cup as one of the favourites, and against Saudi Arabia they looked every inch the part. Spain were imperious in a 4–0 win built on slick, suffocating possession football and clinical finishing, with teenage sensation Lamine Yamal and forward Mikel Oyarzabal the standout performers.
A First-Half Masterclass
Spain needed just ten minutes to break through. Lamine Yamal, the prodigious winger who has taken world football by storm, drifted inside and finished coolly after a clever pass from Oyarzabal to settle any early nerves.
It was the prelude to a devastating burst that effectively ended the contest before half-time. In the 21st minute, Oyarzabal converted from Aymeric Laporte's delivery, and just three minutes later he had his second, this time set up by Dani Olmo. Two goals in three minutes, and Saudi Arabia were reeling.
Game Over After the Break
Any hope of a Saudi recovery evaporated early in the second half. In the 49th minute, defender Hatan Tambakti turned the ball into his own net under pressure from Spain's relentless attack, completing the rout at 4–0.
What It Means
For Spain, it was a statement of intent — the kind of complete, professional performance that title contenders produce. Their pressing was relentless, their passing crisp, and in Yamal they have a player capable of deciding any match.
Saudi Arabia, who famously beat Argentina at Qatar 2022, will need to regroup quickly. They were simply outclassed by one of the tournament's elite sides. Follow every World Cup 2026 match live on KickD — real-time scores, goal alerts, and group standings updated every 60 seconds.
