Bellingham and Kane on Target as England Ease Past Panama
Second-half goals from Jude Bellingham and Harry Kane gave England a controlled 2–0 win over a resilient Panama in New Jersey.
England produced a patient, professional performance at MetLife Stadium, breaking down a stubborn Panama with two goals in the space of five second-half minutes to secure a 2–0 victory.
For much of the first half, Panama frustrated the favourites. Compact, organised and committed to their defensive shape, the Central Americans limited England to half-chances and ensured the contest remained goalless at the interval. England, dominant in possession but lacking a cutting edge, were made to work for their openings.
The breakthrough, when it came, was worth the wait. Jude Bellingham, England's talisman in midfield, struck in the 62nd minute to settle the nerves and reward his side's persistence. Five minutes later the points were all but secured, captain Harry Kane finding the net in the 67th minute to double the lead and underline his enduring importance to this England side.
With the game won, England managed the closing stages comfortably, seeing out the result without alarm. Panama, to their credit, never abandoned their discipline, but the gap in quality told once England found their rhythm in front of goal.
For England, it is a tidy, efficient win — the kind of result that builds momentum without revealing too much. With Bellingham and Kane both on the scoresheet, their two most important players head into the knockout rounds in good touch.
For Panama, there is honour in a battling display against one of the tournament's heavyweights, and an evening that will live long in the memory regardless of the result.
